Hi,

Bought a cannondale trail 4 in June and when washing there is black square plastic part in the frame, what is this for?

    Front mechs aren't just attached by a band around the seat tube method these days, just another of a few various mounting types.

    It’s better to have a mount for a front mech, and not need / use it, than to not have one. That’s the sort of thinking you get from Cannondale. They’re right as well, it would certainly help with resale, as not everyone would want a 1X.

    It looks to me like they didn't want to redesign the frame, or had loads left over when the market moved towards 1x. So they just blanked it off. Then position it as a 1x with capability for 2x.
