I'll be taking my 13-year old grandson to Cannock On Sunday to ride the Dog and Monkey. We have both been before but not for quite a while. Is it open, are any parts closed, are the trails really muddy or just damp and grippy? When were you there last?

I've not been since the summer due to injury, but you can always check the trail status on Chase Trails: https://www.chasetrails.co.uk/ FTD is shown as open, the Monkey has a couple of diversions.
The main trails at Cannock don't really get overly muddy as they're generally armoured. The stones used to armour the trails can get a bit slippy so you may want to run lower tyre pressures for a bit more grip. Other than that, you may have a few puddles to splash through and a few muddy patches, but that's about it.0 -
Thanks for that. Sounds like situation normal.0

Wow! That place is busy, busy, busy!
The overflow carpark has an overflow carpark, along with numerous parking marshals to ensure everyone parks in straight lines. Extra toilets provided and an extra outdoor cafe (take away only). Its been like that for months apparently. But most people are not riding the red trails, as far as I could tell. EMTBs everywhere!
The trails were damp and grippy, the diversion not too bad. Sadly they missed out Tom Dick and Harry. All in all a good day out. My grandson enjoyed it; he slept all the way back in the car. Happy Bunny!0 -
There were some large groups moving about, talking about 20 in the largest and typically 5-7 or so mostly.
I was taking a break at a crossing point when an Asian guy in an open face helmet on an emtb hardtail stopped and asked me "if two brown guys had ridden by recently". I said that I hadn't noticed, what did they look like? He gave me a funny look and said "Dark red Trek emtbs and full face helmets, dressed in black". I said "yes, up there, less than 2 mins ago!"
(How was I supposed to know what colour their skin was?)0
