Road use tyres for monuntain bike 26" wheels?

Hi folks I have a mountain bike which has 26" wheels and I only use it for cycling on the road not long journeys just 10 miles at a time to the shops etc,I'm looking for tyres that will have good rolling resistance and that won't cost me a fortune.A friend gave me a brand new Schwalbe marathon plus 1.75" but I haven't fitted it yet,can anyone tell me if they are quick or if I should get something else.I suppose I should use that though to save me money.Should I get another one of the same or should I maybe mix tyres and get something else for the front or the back? Can anyone tell me how the standard marathon tyre compares as I have seen them in a 1.5" and could have that one on the back maybe?
so any thoughts on what would be the best thing to do and what to have on the front or the back would be appreciated

  • Marathon Plus are "bomp proof" in terms of getting a puncture is extremely unlucky, but they are relatively very heavy and I don't think their rolling resistance is great IIRC (try looking them up at https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/ ).

In the Schwale range, I'd look at folding bead versions of Marathon Supremes and Kojaks, wider will give more comfort and narrower (especially on the front wheel) will favour speed.
