Winter hack TLC

Time to dig out the winter bike and get it ready for another few months of crap weather, salt, snow, rain and whatever else can be thrown at it

2008 Genesis Skyline with well over 5k and was in need of some new components before venturing out on the roads this winter.

The original wheels were renewed last winter and this year the following are now changed:-

Mudguards (original alloy rivets corroded and snapped so stays were held on with cable ties and pop rivets)
Bottom bracket (one of the bearings was rougher than a badgers bottom the other was silky smooth)
48T chainring was showing signs of wear on the teeth
18T freewheel (has already had 2 freewheel changes)
Chain (has already had 3 chain changes)

Before

Original SKS mudguards

BB shell

No rust

New mudguards fitted,

Need to leave space for the back wheel to be removed from the vertical dropouts

Awaiting the drivechain

Finished and ready for plenty more winter adventures

Tidy, as we say round here.
Although - Gatorskins, not what I'd choose.

Gatorskins have been faultless over the past number of years, not a single puncture and the only time I lost grip was on a 'car polished' drain cover which I hit it going round a corner at speed, but still managed to stay upright. When they are due for renewal I'll upgrade to 25mm tyres, however in the mean time I'll keep using them even in the frost and snow
