Buying Advice - Light XC Bike for some Trail Riding

Hi, After selling my full sus as it wasn't getting used for what it was designed for.
I want to replace with something capable of blue/red trail riding and xc riding that is easy to pedal for the keep fit aspect - fire trails, canals etc. I am thinking HT would be good. Not sure on the comfort aspect for 2/3 hour rides plus.
But anyone got any recommendations (likely of older bikes c.2010 onwards) - HT or Full Sus. Preferably lightweight to make all day rides easy to live with. Older because that will fit my budget and ideas will allow me to look out for them for sale.
