When Pipa said on ITV coverage that she was travelling with David Walsh I wondered if this article to appear.

Eloquent as ever from York about her times riding as Millar.

Interesting theory that the performance of the youngsters is proof the peloton in now clean as previously could not compete without several years of doping behind them

Greg Lemond always said that if you're good, you're good from the beginning. If I'm not mistaken, before the EPO era it wasn't uncommon for riders in their early twenties to win GTs

Armstrong still the youngest winner of a TdF stage

It wasn't so effective in the 80s, so I'm not sure that is true. I like to think Lemond was clean.

He's actually only the 22nd youngest. He's the second youngest in the last 50 years (beaten by Eric Vanderaerden in 1983). The youngest since the war was Jose Samyn in 1967, who Le Samyn is named after when he died in a crash in 1969.
The youngest ever was Fabio Battesini in 1931 aged just 19.

The gist was - they all did it, called it cheating rather than doping and provided a platform for Walsh to have a pop at Brailsford again

  • Ah right thanks.
