using a disc brake wheel for rim brakes?

Hi Folks,

any help with this would be much appreciated. Someone has run over the rear wheel of my old MTB and buckled the wheel. I am keen to avoid buying a new one and a friend has a spare rear wheel but it has disk brakes where as I have rim brakes.

Can I use this wheel with rim brakes if I remove the disc rotor?

Any help would be fantastic!

Many thanks

Does it have a brake track?

If it is a disc brake-only wheel then probably not. The rim will be curved rather than having a flat braking surface.

I have seen wheels that could be used for either, but the sides of the rim were quite definitely flat and thicker to allow for wear. The surface was machined flat and had a few grooves in it too.
