Surprisingly effective mech hanger straightening

Son goes through mech hangers like there's no tomorrow, but as they're £24 plus P&P from canyon (it's a hanger that is unique to his frame and spec, you'll have to take my word on this one), but came across a vid which suggested screwing an old rear wheel with a QR axel into the hanger in lieu of using a proper tool as the thread is the same (10mm, 1mm pitch). Provides good leverage to move the mech around plus an acceptable way of measuring which direction things are out by.

Worked surprisingly well, saved us £25!

  • Yes this does work well, done it myself a couple of times

I was once going to make myself a tool for straightening the hanger bracket because the tailor made ones are too expensive but this method is better because you can see whole way around in one go, it also makes adjustment quicker than the tool
