Bottom bracket for Opera bike

Hi all,

I recently got an old and worn out Opera Giorgionne bike from a friend. It is a bit knackered, so I have set out to update key mech components from existing ones in my shed.
Biggest issue is the crankset, which needs replacing. I have a fairly recent Chorus chainset that is coming off a carbon Bianchi Infinito bike, and I would like to put it into the Opera. However its Bottom bracket seems very different.

Q: what BB components do I need to purchase to replace the Opera BB to something that willl take my Chorus chainset?

Many thanks in advance.

That's a threaded bottom bracket shell, either BSA or Italian threaded.

Is the Chorus chainset Ultra/Power Torque? That would fit, just make sure you use the correct threaded cups.

EDIT: a quick Google search says it's a 70mm, Italian BB shell. Which might actually be the same as what's in your Bianchi!

Either way, the bottom bracket and chainset need to be compatible with 70mm Italian threaded BB shell.

  • Thanks Ben, much appreciated. Yes its the Ultra Torque Chorus. I m planning to leave the Bianchis (super Record) BB as is and just remove the cranks to move over. So I guess i d just need a 70mm italian thread shell?

Main issue is the Opera lies in a remote part of Greece (the nearest workshop there has a hammer, a spanner and gaffer tape), so I have to do the work myself. Which means I have to arrive with the right bits and bobs at hand. I can comfortably do most jobs apart from BBs as there are so many different types.

I'm 99% certain you need these:

(and the tools - 10mm Allen key that you can get a good amount of torque onto - ideally a torque wrench with a 10mm Allen socket)
