Brakes upgrade

I’ve got factory fitted Shimano M445 on my trail bike. I mainly use my bike for road commuting and a bit of off reading. The back brake hardly engages so I use both brakes together most of the time.
What would be a good upgrade model? Any suggestions?

Have you tried bleeding the brake and/or changing the pads?

As JBA says. If not sure visit local bike shop or get a bleed and do it yourself. Loads of clips on YouTube.

As above, rather than bin your brakes it's worth fixing your rear brake problem, keep them if your happy, if not you could sell them on and I'd recommend a set of Deore M6000's if you still want an upgrade.
