I've had this mint condition frameset hung up for two years now. It's a really nice frame, but I've simply decided I prefer how steel rides. If I had the room, I'd build it up into something bonkers! But I don't have the room.

Starley JKS-R1, carbon frame and fork - with headset, 110mm Deda Zero stem, carbon seat post, bidon cages and Rotor bottom bracket (smooth as butter) which lets you use a 24mm (Shimano) crank spindle in the BB30 bottom bracket shell.

Size 56 - 56cm TT and I can take other measurements if necessary. But it's pretty 'standard' stuff.

I'd like £300, but I'm open to sensible offers. Collect from North London.

Thanks for looking!
Ben

    Ben,
I’ll level with you because I really fancy your frame.

I’m waiting on a sale of a bike that I’ve just finished building. Somebody has offered me a price that I’ve accepted. Hopefully we can close it all up tomorrow.

I’ve not heard of Starley but I’ve googled them. Is it a decent frame? My plan is to fit an Ultegra groupset with Fulcrum3 wheels and use it as a commuter. Do you think this will work well.

I’m in Mill Hill. Where are you?

It's an open mould frame and I had it custom painted. This was Starley's business model (sourcing large produced frames, painting, building up and selling), and unfortunately they seem to have fallen on hard times.

It's a great frame, I ran Dura Ace and Fulcrum Quattros on it. It'd be spot on as a commuter - got a good bottom bracket in and carbon doesn't mind the wet!

Keep me posted on your sale - you have first refusal.

    Thanks for the reply Ben,
So far so good then but I’ve heard some negative vibes in regards to open mould frames.

    Where are you in London?

Most carbon frames are open mould and come out of the same handful of factories in the Far East. Then Specializied, Pinarello etc put their names on and charge a premium. They all ride the same.

Let me know how it goes with your sale and we can go from there.

    Ta.

    Hi Ben,
It’s a 7 year old frame so I’ll give you £250 in your hand any night this week.

    Hi Darrell.

It can stay hanging up in my cupboard for that price.

    Sorry.

Not really my place to jump in, but there's still some difference between the cheapest open molds and something a company buys and puts their name on (planet x, ribble, starley, radial). And between the severe delays from china these days, along with the fact that carbon does not really have a fatigue life, it's not a bad price.

Thanks for the advice and I’ve made a couple of offers. One was a bit cheeky and the other was a bit more serious.
I’m still waiting for an answer.

Starley look like they're still going from their website.
Used to love walking past the shop in my lunch house looking at all the beautifully painted bikes I could never afford.

Oh this is good news, last time I checked the "under construction" state of the website looked ominous! Thanks for bringing this up.

Although this is kind of lovely to see this relationship blossom, 'get a room' or private message maybe?
