Hollowtech II bottom brackets - compatability
I'm in the process of collecting bits to upgrade to Tiagra 4700 10 speed on my road bike.
I was about to buy an RS500 for £19.99 from Amazon (seems to be the going price but other places charge shipping too)
However whilst looking I noticed the SM-BBR60 for £20.27. Which seems to be the Ultegra version for only 28p more. From what I can tell it is compatible with the 4700 stuff and has better bearings and weighs less.
It all seems to good to be true! Would somebody mind confirming that it will be better for the 4700? If so I'll get one ordered.
Thanks

All Hollowtech 2 bottom brackets are the same size and are all compatible with all the Shimano cranksets designed for Hollowtech 2 bottom brackets. There is no technical downside in getting an Ultegra BB and using it with a Tiagra crank.0

Thanks, from what I have read the ultegra is lighter and the ball bearings are allegedly more polished to provide smoother rolling, they are also smaller with more balls.wongataa said:All Hollowtech 2 bottom brackets are the same size and are all compatible with all the Shimano cranksets designed for Hollowtech 2 bottom brackets. I've now ordered the Ultegra, it just seemed strange that they were basically the same price.0 -
The Ultegra and RS500 use different sized tools to tighten them. The RS500 one is larger but you can get an insert that allows it to be used for the Ultegra type
PS Merlin are selling the RS500 for £130
