Muvi Veho K2 Pro menu not working

Not bike related as such, but bought this item to record some rides. Just unboxed, fitted micro-sd and I cannot get the menu to work.
Wondered if anyone else had had similar issues? Manual states to press and hold record button for 3 seconds. This does nothing. If I have the LCD screen then I can toggle onto the menu but then the only way of navigating around the icons is to again press the record button ~ but there is no way of selecting a menu item. The menu says the stop record button should be used but the only thing that button does is...stop recording.
