Hi all!
Hoping to get some input on deciding which bike to get as I seem to change my mind every other day on which I think is best. I have £1100 to play with and can't decide between the AL 7.0, R872 or Avant H30. All seem to have relative strengths and weakness but mostly seems to come down to frames and group sets. If I'm honest my current bike is a Hybrid on Shimano tourney so any group set will feel like an upgrade.
Just wanted to make sure I'm getting the best value for money for my first step into road cycling

Having a look at the geometries (specifically stack and reach) the are all slighlty different, so you might want to be careful with sizing - for example if you needed a small in the Canyon you might want a medium in the Ribble.
Ribble seems the most aggressive geometry, and also comes with Tiagra, so I'd be inclinded to choose either the Canyon or Orbea. The gearing on the Canyon (52/36, 11-34) gives you a bit more of a range than the Orbea (50/34, 11-32) so probably another tick in the box of the Canyon.
I don't have any experience of any of these bikes, so these points are just what stand out to me off the spec sheets.0 -
The Ribble is carbon, the other two are Aluminium, so is that a greater factor than the groupset?
The main advantage with Ribble is the options to tweak the groupset and finishing kit to meet your riding style.0 -
You have chosen two alu. frame bikes and one carbon so is that your preference alu.? What is the delivery time on the Canon?0

I’m in a similar situation at the £1500 mark. I’m going with a Ribble.
The carbon fame is more upgradable and it’s got better reviews than the Canyon. The Canyon definitely looks better though.0 -

Dolan.
And you don’t see many of them.
Can you get them through a cycle to work scheme?0 -

Go with the Carbon framed bike. It’s not all about the weight, Carbon framed bikes are pretty much always more comfortable to ride for any length of time, than Aluminium In my experience.0

Dolan do a new version of the letap which looks sweet, Campag option too. I have an earlier version of the r872 which has had a few knocks but still going strong. Although I have just had to get a new fork as the upper compression ring has worn a groove into the steerer.
If (IF) it was my money I would be buying the dolan.0 -
Personally, as a first foray into road biking I would half your budget and look for a "pre-loved" CAAD8, Boardman Team or similar mid range bike - I expect you could get 10 speed Tiagra or at worst 9 speed Sora for under £600. Make sure its right for you and then start on the treacherous path of upgrades, N+1 bike ownership !!daniel8duncan said:
