Tyre getter onner recommendations

Although I've never really had problems getting tyres on and off I have to confess I had a right old battle getting a new Hans Dampf on this afternoon. I managed it in the end without destroying the rim. I tried all the usual techniques without success. However after a bit of a break I came back to it and luckily it did go on. I was knackered and my hands are very sore.
I've been looking at possible "tools" that might ease things in the future. One that might be useful is the Crank Bros Speedier Lever.
Anyone used one? Any good? any other suggestions? Thanks...

There is a technique to getting them on.

Make sure the bead sits inside the centre groove of the rim as much as possible as you work your way round from either side upwards of the valve to refit.

This effectively shortens the circumference of the rim which will give you enough slack to get the last part of the tyre bead over the rim. I too had same problems until I used this method. Makes such a difference and way easier.

That's the way I usually do it. In addition I tried toe straps, washing up liquid and finally a bit of talc.

Some rim tyre combinations are just harder and have tight tolerances. I never struggled myself until I tried to get a set of WTB's and a set of Continentals onto my Hope Fortus rims. Maybe they get easier when they've been on and off a few times but never used any kind of special tools or lubes in the end?

A liberal dose of 'effing and blinding usually works for me.
However I've got a touch of carpal tunnel syndrome right now.
There's not a chance I'd get a tight tyre on, or off, right now.

Thanks folks.... yes, I appreciate that toughing is probably necessary, and that is what I ended up doing but it's not my idea of fun so if I can find some sort of tool to ease the way I'll use it.
I looked at the Kool Tool but wasn't sure if it would handle mtb tyre very well???

I did look at these https://jejamescycles.com/product/2737/bbb-bbb-btl-78-easytyre-fitting-tool/option/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5_j0k7Dq6QIVt4BQBh3COAGOEAQYAyABEgJO8_D_BwE

    They look a possibility.

  • That is just a Kool Tool by a different name.
You could try a steel tyre lever....

Yes, the Kool Tool and BBB look similar in design. I guess any difference will be in exact dimensions, strength etc and how well they handle heavily treaded stiff tyre.
Was there a specific Kool Tool model you recommend - the KoolStop Tyre Mate says "Due to the straight design of the jaws, these are best suited to road/un-treaded tyres as there is not the clearance over larger tyres. "

I have 29x2.5" High Roller II tyres to get onto a 30mm internal rim. Getting them on (in the approved manner) was a struggle. But getting them off trailside was an absolute bar steward! I really thought that I was going to tear the tyre wall! Those beads behaved as though they were glued to the rim.

So you may have something worse to look forward to! Keep your tyre sealant topped up!

    Don't think I haven't considered that Steve :'(
I think some sort of test run is probably needed but am I that brave.
