Numb feet and cleat position

So I have recently got some new shoes (the previous model of the Bontrager XXX shoes) and they seem to match my wide feet quite well, they feel plenty roomy. However, on longer rides I seem to suffer from numb feet. I know one cause of this is having the cleats too far forward, ahead of the ball of the foot. I have just checked by taping something to the side of the ball of my foot, then using that as a marker and drawing a line on tape on the outside of the shoe. It seems like this line is falling ahead of the axle of the pedal.

The only problem is that cleats are already as far back on the shoe as possible. I can't move them any more. Any advice or is it just a case of buying different shoes?

I have my cleats set back as far as they will go behind the axle & I suffer from this but only really in 1 foot bizarrely.

I've been trying different brands of shoes for months & never been able to get to the bottom of it.

@ibr17xvii, perhaps the arches on your feet are different size? That's the case with me. Left foot has virtually no arch. Right foot, only slightly better.

    * It wasn't until I accessed my RAF records that I discovered that my recruitment into the organisation was 'touch and go', because of my feet. When I had orthotics made in 2008, the podiatrist pointed it out to me.
    * Cleat positioning on my shoes were different for quite a long time. With the orthotics, they are about right.

Good point not really considered that. I am in a position to tinker with that as I have the G8 2620 insoles that allow you to change to arch support although I do need to get shoes sorted 1st.

1st 20-25 miles of a ride are fine, after that I get a numb right foot with pins & needles which gets worse the further I go. Having a stop & stretch solves it for a bit but when I get going again it comes back.
