Front derailleur barrel adjuster

I need some help/advice on the barrel adjuster for my front derailleur.

Trying to put on a new derailleur yet when I’ve set it up and then put the cable in and indexing it no matter how much I turn the barrel nothing happens!

Any ideas?

I’ve tried following several YouTube/Park tools etc for setting it up but can’t seem to get it right

    If it's an inline adjuster, is the adjuster actually lengthening or shortening when you rotate it? If one or both ends are not snug on the cable outer/end piece, then the two parts will just rotate together and not actually work as intended.
