Ultegra DI2 failure. Hot Sun?
Hello
I have a bike with Ultegra DI2 6870. On the last few occasions now, I’ve gone to ride it and zero response from DI2. Nothing.
Each time I’ve taken another bike out and when I’ve returned it’s working and battery check is green. First two times I placed DI2 on charge.
Today the 3rd time it dawned on me that the DI2 stops working after being sat stationary in the sun waiting for me to get ready.
As anyone else experienced DI2 failure in this manner. I’m wondering if the battery is on its way out.
If I plug into laptop, everything checks out fine that I can check.
Thanks.

No experience of DI2, but I can confirm that Chorus mechanical is not effected by the sun2

I think you may have got the Scottish edition of Di2 by accident. Might want to check the part number to make sure. Some English shops were given the wrong batch last year.0

So not heat related. Just temperamental. Sometimes power sometimes as dead as a door nail.
Hooked up to etube and everything recognised.
When not dead the better check light is green.0 -
I've had exactly same issue with 9070 series, and initially I though that this was the issue, as twice it happened was after a cafe (pub), stop where bike was left in full sun. Upper operating temp of the internal battery is 50deg C. I doubt it gets that hot in the seat tube.
Anyway, I've since discounted this as it's happened on other occasions where temp has definitely not been a factor. Annoying thing is, it starts to work again after anything between 5-20 minutes!
I've come to the conclusion (after further Googling and Forum fishing), that it's just one of those things, and it's probs a dodgy battery or connection. Can't be bothered to disassemble the whole system right now, but come Winter, I'll do a full strip and see if there's any internal issues with etube connections.....0 -
I’ve heard of this before. It can be temperature but it would have to be really hot (remember temperature is given in the shade) so if it’s 35 degrees C it can be well above that in direct sun.
The other issue I’ve heard of is a battery on its way out. Worth having a spare in the workshop, you could swap it over (or swap between two bikes if you have two with di2), which can diagnose/ discount the battery.
It could be a bad connection or faulty wire, but the intermittent nature would seem strange, especially if it was only happening after a cafe stop! If it ever happens when you can plug in the charger and hook it up to a laptop that could help diagnose the fault using e-tube.

Not had any effect on mine in the direct sunlight. Has to be a battery issue.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

Problem is, you need the SM-PCE1 device to check battery errors, so it's stump-up cpl hundred quid for that or find your nearest Shimano Service Centre who should have the device...pilot_pete said:I’ve heard of this before.
