    That's not a product of the weight though, it's down to the stiffness, geometry and handling. My 5.8 kg Ridley Helium SLX is rock solid at speed, the best descending bike I've ever had.

    It's true that some light weight bikes can handle poorly because they've made the weight savings in the wrong places - if the frame is flexy, especially at the front, it will feel sketchy at high speeds. But being light weight alone won't make a bike unstable or twitchy - the weight of the bike is still a small percentage of the total system weight.
