Bling wheels or another bike

I've got a Defy Advanced sl 0 which is amazing with some decent wheels (mavic ksyrium pro). Im pondering getting some really nice carbon wheels for it. However, for the price of these wheels you can get some pretty nice second hand bikes. Not sure........wheels or another nice bike.
Thoughts?

  • Looking at the new hunt 44ud or the new zipp303s. Pretty similar in price and depth. However, 1k can buy a decent second bike......

You've described your own bike as being amazing so how much better do you expect another one to be? Seems like you want to buy another bike and have just come here for validation.
  • Isn't that the whole point of this forum? :-)

Exactly, the answer is always to buy another bike.

What kind of bike would you look to buy?
The Defy is a pretty capable road bike so you don't really need another one of those.

If you were looking to buy something like a mountain bike then I'd say go and buy that instead of fancy wheels as it's good to do a variety of riding.

Err no. Ideally the OP should have told us what he expects to gain from buying a new bike or new wheels. By his own admission he already has a rather good bike and wheelset and when oxoman gave him sound advice on wheels he seemed to ignore it and suggested some of his own that he's already set eyes on, hence my observation that he seems to just want validation.

The standard response in these situations I suppose is to say new wheels and bike might get you some marginal gains but losing some weight and pursuing a structured training program will usually yield some significant gains and not cost anything.
  • So I went with this.........colnago c50. The wheels can wait.......
