Chainring bolts

I have recently been servicing my old Carrera subway and have replaced the chain and cassette. I was also going to replace both chainrings, but when I've received the new 32t chainring (which is the smallest on this bike), it doesn't have a threaded hole to secure the bolt. I was thinking about using a M8 nut with thread lock to put it all back together again, but thought there might be a better solution?

I've attached a couple of photos of the original chainring and bolt.

    Managed to get hold of some 17mm chainring bolts, which should hopefully be long enough. Ordered on eBay and it looks like they're coming from China so bike could be off the road for a few more weeks!
