Shimano XT 10 Speed chainrings....

I'm just looking to get some spare XT M770 bits but am struggling to find a M770-10 32t chainring.
I've read in a few places that M770 and M780 aren't straightforwardly compatible though some sellers advertise a M780-10 32t as being suitable for M770.
Does anyone have experience either way as M780's are readily available. I don't want to buy it now and come to fit it X months later (when needed) and find out it wont:-)
Cheers
Simon

As always the Shimano techdocs tells you the interchangeability, great source, always worth bookmarking.

M780,M980 or M660-10 are all fully interchangeable on your M770-10
Or just change for a non Shimano ring!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.1 -
Many thanks... the page is bookmarked
Re changing for a non Shimano, a whole new territory for me. When I worked if the bike needed anything other than brakes changing it went to the LBS, now I'm retired I have less money but more time also I'm not frightened of getting my hands dirty.
My only worry about using non Shimano is (again) compatibility. I'll have to do some digging. Any recommended sources of info greatly received!
Thanks again
