What chainring and casette do I need - 4 yr old Specialized Allez

Hi all,
After having my Specialized Allez serviced a while back, I think the gear cables were a bit tightly wound and it ripped a few teeth off my chainring. The casette and chain aren't mega worn but have seen some action.
Firstly, can I get away with just changing the chain ring?
Also, do I have to get the same parts (Praxis chainring) or can I get something else?

I thought it was almost as cheap to buy a new crankset - but then I'm looking at Shimano chainrings... but if you do change the crankset you may need to change the BB to suit ...0
