Gear shifters and brake levers for 2011 Hardrock

I bought a used beat up specialised hardrock and the shifters are shot.Any recommendations for new ones please.I will be using it for mainly commuting and canals. The gears are standard from the factory.

Cheers

Mick

I'd recommend getting some replacement shimano deore hydraulic brakes they are good value for the money.

What speed are the gears on the bike? you must replace like for like otherwise it wont work correctly with the rear derailleur on the bike.

So what shifters do you have now, if they are SRAM then you probably can't use Shimano now.
There were 3 or 4 bikes in the Hardrock family in 2011, so telling us they are unchanged isn't helping.

No, but update to a 9 speed cassette and chain and they will as 3x9!

Do as The Rookie suggests and convert to 3x9.

No. You can mix and match front derailleur and shifter.

I thought things like wire cable diameter and pull ratio were different Sram vs Shimano?

Maybe that is how it used to be and not now (very sensible), but the OPs bike is a 2011, so may not have had the benefit of the common agreement.

There is a small difference in wire diameter but both work with both wires.

Cable pull is different for the rear mech, not the front. So you can mix and match at the front but not at the rear.

My first MTB build was an oddity, it had a SRAM X7 shifter for the front with a Shimano mech and a visually matching SRAM Rocket (Shimano pull ratio) shifter for the rear with a Shimano rear mech!
