FS: Focus Izalco Max | 56cm super lightweight road bike | £1,300

Hello all! After many years a roadie, I’m being lured back to my MTB roots and have decided to put my Focus up for sale. As a second road bike in my garage, it’s not getting the use it deserves and it makes buying the new MTB that bit easier!

I’m listing this as the perfect project bike for someone who’s obsessed with having a super lightweight road build or just wants a beautiful riding bike for the summer. There are a couple of bits that need some attention, though nothing crazy and all is detailed honestly in the description below.

I had this built up from a brand new Izalco Max 0.0 frameset in early 2016. I’ve never weighed it, though on the weight weenies forum a combined frame and fork weigtht of 1,050g in the size large that mine is (56cm) is being banded around quite commonly… combine that with the Mavix Ksyrium SLR Exalith wheelset (1,400g for the pair) and you’re already looking at a pretty light build from the off! Without any specialist/custom components, many people seem to be able to get the weight of these down to 5.6kg/5.7kg with relative ease, hence why this is being angled as such a great little project bike for someone.

Weight aside, I’ve truly loved this bike – having been lucky enough to ride and own a whole load of top-end bikes over the years, the Izalco’s springy, eager feel on climbs is like no other and it’s genuinely is smooth as butter to ride. A top class, beautiful looking bike.

Spec is as follows:

In terms of condition, it’s been well used and in all honesty could do with some loving. The frame/fork is absolutely rock solid – a few scuffs/cable rub here and there. The black Xalith coating on the rear wheel rim has worn off so is more silver, unfortunately, but I’m told Mavic can re-coat. Cosmetically, in general, it has seen better days – I’m not claiming that it’s perfect – this has been a bike that’s been ridden, but it’s certainly no wreck… I’ve cleaned and looked after it over the years but I don’t want people expecting a showroom bike.

The chain needs replacing, headset is a bit loose/knockey and the freehub has been giving me some trouble – It has developed an issue whereby it sticks and doesn’t freewheel particularly ‘freely’ so would be worth replacing (sub £40 for a new Mavic freehub body). Other than that, it’s a lovely bike and has given me many miles of joy so I’ll be sad to see it go, but – as I say – knobbly tyres are now on the menu!

I’m 5ft11″ by the way and have a 32″ inside leg. Fit is spot on – though will obviously need some fine tuning for your own measurements.

Bike’s located in Essex – I’ll happily post anywhere in the UK and (socially distant) viewings/collection are welcome. I’d like £1,300 for it to help realise my MTB dreams! Postage can be quoted for, of course. Any qyestions at all, just let me know and I’ll do my best to answer – honestly of course. I have nothing to hide with this bike, I hope you’ll see from the description and images that I’ve laid all to bare and I’m sure someone will see it for what it is – a great weight weenie project bike with some very easy, quick wins to be made in getting down to that 5.6kg mark (swapping out that awful stem up front would be an easy start!).
