How often do companies update color of bikes?

How often do companies release new color options? I'm starting to see a lot of brands sold out of certain colors in certain sizes which make me believe this is in preparation for a new offering. Is it like cars that come out with a new model every year? Are there expected "releases" of new colors annually? I'm curious specifically about companies like BMC, Cervelo, Trek, and Specialized. Thanks!

    Normally models get refreshed every year with newer groupsets and kit that comes on the market and they update the colours, but actual frame design only changes every 3-4 years.

    Colours like black on black are around every year unfortunately.
