I wouldn't rule it out completely on his say so, he may well be right in what he says & I've no doubt he knows far more than I will ever know but the stuff he goes on about will only ever affect a very small percentage of purchasers.michaelstjernqvist said:

Boardman could sell 100 frames & chances are there might be something "wrong" with 1 or 2 of them which would be the same for pretty much any manufacturer out there.
You only ever hear about the 1 or 2 that weren't perfect rather than the other 98 or 99 happy customers - & I don't own a Boardman BTW!0 -

Or depending on your size there are some good deals around on the Genesis Zero SL frameset which is lovely.0 -
Have a look on the Paul Milnes Ebay shop. They are a genuine bike shop based in Bradford. Have dealt with the a couple of times before for framesets and I can't fault them. If you see a frame on their Ebay list that you like just call them direct and they will probably discount it to avoid the Ebay fees.
Here's an example. An ex-Team Lotto Soudal Ridley frame ridden by Tiesj Benoot

Plenty of others listed in their shop if that one doesn't appeal0 -
