Chainring-chain compatibility

Hi Folks,
Scratching my head over this and wondering if anyone might be able to help.
I was making a few modifications to my Brompton and decided to replace the front 54T chainring with a Litepro 58T chainring - this one... which clearly states it is for use on a Brompton.
All was going well until I tried to mount the chain and it appeared they had different pitches. I'd have put it down to a worn chain if it wasn't for the fact the chain pitch appears too small (rather than too big) and the chain was brand new!
To check it wasn't the chain, the pitch issue was also there for my 10 and 11 speed chains which all have 1/2 inch pitches.
Am I missing something or is the chainring a dud?
