Evans in Liverpool closing on Saturday.

Can't see that this has been mentioned so here goes...
Evans in Liverpool is closing for good on Saturday. Nothing to do with Mike Ashley wanting the rent to be decimated. Oh no. The lease is up and MA is desperate to have the rent increased to stay there but propety owners - Liverpool One - have said no thank you and they would rather have an empty shop.

Cycle Republic is also closing so decent bike shops in Liverpool are now as rare as hen's teeth.

25% closing down discount, and an extra 20% discount this week. I've just bought a £70 Endura jacket for £38. Worth getting down before everything disappears.

Didn't even realize there was an Evans there. I use Chester.

Sorry to hear the news though. A few more months and we will have descended into a Mad Max future where the main currency is toilet rolls, hand sanitizer and inner tubes.

That's a shame. Can't really say I'm a great fan of Evans, though I do find the Chester store handy, mainly as I work round the corner and they price-match Wiggle.
  • Well you are somewhat late to the party.

I wonder what Mike Ashley is thinking now? Close the store on Saturday and on Monday bike shops have a licence to print money.

    Serves the censored right.

Their Camden branch sadly closed a while ago.

It will reopen in the nearest sports direct as a concession. Maybe, Maybe not. You heard it here first if it happens.

Guys in the shop said that it "might" resurface in Edge Lane, but that's all they knew. No SD down there, nearest is in Aintree which is probably closer to me than the old store.

Only Mike Ashley could get one of his businesses to grant a concession to another of his businesses! No doubt it will be a tax fiddle.

Bricks and mortar stores, especially chain stores in city centres will be obsolete within the next 12 months or so as rents and business rates make them totally unaffordable except for the foolhardy. LBS' in the surrounding suburbs have a far better chance of remaining, but this is another tightening of the noose as we move ever more towards online shopping, great for couriers like me, but it will leave a huge hole in our city centres.
