Large frame rear gear inner

Working on a Venge (first time I've touched one this size) for someone and in the process of replacing the rear gear outer and inners, every standard inner I've got is way too short. Are these things that big that they need a tandem inner gear cable?

Seriously? I'm not familiar with a Venge cable routing but on my son's bike, Large Cannondale Synapse with internal cabling I had loads of inner left when it got to the rear derailleur. At least 50cm or more. What route does the Venge cable take?

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Sounds odd. Standard Shimano inners are about 2m long out the pack, surely that's long enough?

The owner had Lifeline Essential cable inners and way too short. Maybe it's something with them as they were only 2000mm as opposed to Shimano at 2100mm. That 10cm would have made the difference. In the end I ordered a SRAM tandem inner to do the job and be safe.
