What bike?

- 28-30mm tyres with mudguards.
-Mudguard mounts.
-Hydro Disc brakes.
- Road only - no desire to go off tarmac on it so verstility not an advantage.
- Not for racing but wont feel out of place on chaingangs etc - though I'm 51 so not looking for modern super low aero bike geometry .
- About 2.5k tops but happy to wait for a sale so could go higher on rrp, or happy to buy a frameset and build it.
- Any groupset though Campag would be ideal - not expecting that to be available on an off the peg bike though and not averse to other brands.
Non essentials but in an ideal world.
External cabling or at least something that isn't going to take 2 days and a visit to my lbs to recable.
Through axles of some common standard
A bottom bracket standard that isn't going to creak.
Narrowish bars and shortish cranks for a 58cm - I'd have to change anything over 42cm c2c and ideally 172.5 cranks. Kind of expecting to have to change both these.
Comes with decent enough wheels so I'm not spending another £300
Anyone care to save me getting up to date with what is out there - I'm a little out of touch these days but want to start doing more miles again and this will be a little motivator to do that.
Thank you

I recently had a similar criteria as you and went with a CAAD 13 Disc frameset which I'm currently building up. It's internally cabled but it didn't find it too tricky to route, I've had far worse in the past.
I did also consider the Bowman Weald which does include a non creaky bottom bracket although I've personally never had any issues with BB30 *touches wood*0 -

Does a caad have mudguard fixings and room for big tyres? I thought it was more of a hardcore race bike but as I say I am out of touch. I'll check out the focus.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

Mason Definition ticks all boxes other than it has internal cabling. No great shakes though as you can run full outers through the frame. I bought mine as the rolling chassis option and built up with Campagnolo H11

Yep, it's got proper mudguard fittings and can fit 28mm tyres with guards and 30mm without. I've fitted SKS Bluemels to mine and aside from having to bend the stays on the front the fitting job was relatively painless.DeVlaeminck said:Does a caad have mudguard fixings and room for big tyres? I had similar requirements to you plus the desire for something suitable for multi-day rides and light touring.
Ended up going for a Kinesis 4s disc, built up with Ultegra R8020, 3T wheels Deda carbon finishing kit and Astute carbon rail and shell saddle (everything new) for just under £2K including bar tape and fancy carbon bottle cages. You could probably build with Potenza/Chorus hydro for about £2.5K depending on your choice of wheels and finishing kit and shopping around for deals.
Has a threaded BB shell, 12mm x 100/142mm thru axles, will take 30mm tyres with guards and 33 without. Internal cabling but nothing taxing to install. Has mounts for full guards and a rear rack. I've no complaints, it's a great bike and if I could only keep one of my bikes this would be it.0 -
How about this Ti job from PX? Seems to tick all the boxes - Hydro discs, mudguard fittings, external cabling, Thru-axles, GXP BB...
wheelset could be upgraded I suppose:

That looks hard to beat at that price!lakesluddite said:How about this Ti job from PX? Seems to tick all the boxes - Hydro discs, mudguard fittings, external cabling, Thru-axles, GXP BB...

I received my Px Hurricane this week. Looks good and I'm happy after a couple of rides. New bike - good feeling :-)0

Had a look at the Focus, probably a bit too high at the front end for me. Caad geometry is pretty much bang on.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

What stack and reach are you looking for? Frame geometry is nothing like simple enough to say "I'm looking for a 58cm frame" these days.
Cube Attain series bikes are quite upright, 58cm has 388mm reach and 610mm stack (which I now believe includes the conical spacer that sits on head tube). https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/1591/products/cube-attain-gtc-sl-disc-carbon-road-bike-2019-blackgrey.aspx isn't bad for £1519 in this modern Brexitfalation climate.

Definitely has mudguard mounts.
Cube Agree series is a bit more racey, 58cm frame has 394mm reach and 594mm stack. Must admit I like the vibrant colouring too of the orange version! https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/330/products/cube-agree-c62-race-disc-carbon-road-bike-2019-redorange.aspx is £1999.20 , but no 58cm left, although you might fit 56/60cm variants they have in stock (with former quite similar to 58cm Attain).

Not so sure about mudguard mounts.================

Thanks for the suggestions. Probably going to put this on the backburner as an emergency trip to the dentist this morning after a night without sleep due to toothache it transpires I have an absess in a heavily restored tooth which can't be saved. Booked in tomorrow to have it extracted then it's a nice big prominent gap or I spend the cost of a decent bike on an implant (or spend the cost of a lesser bike on some sticky bridge thing but I thinking more all or nothing). Really could have done without it at after the last 12 months but that's life.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0
