Open Pro UST Rookie tyre fitting help needed

I need some advice please, I’m trying to fit tyres to my new Mavic Open Pro UST rims but struggling. Not going tubeless just yet, so have fitted rim tape for inner tubes and now trying to fit Michelin Pro4 Endurance tyres, but boy are they tight. I’ve had stubborn tyres before but I just cannot get the tyres on the rims. I know these are designed to be tubeless so I imagine tolerances will be tight, but I just don’t know what to do next -can anyone offer any advice please? TIA

I've got the same tyres on tubeless-ready rims - you're right, not the easiest to fit! Recommend replacing the standard rim tape with Stans No Tubes tape (just remember to push it into the rim well so you've still got a dip to push the beads into when fitting), and a VAR tyre lever (https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/tools/var-tyre-levers/) is great for getting the last few inches on when you think your thumbs are going to break. The rest is just technique. Hope that helps

Use tubeless tape. Var is the thinnest. Stans is too thick. I use two layers of var 21mm with this rim. Stans is 50% thicker so that make the tyre fitting harder.

Also IRC levers are the best at getting tyres on and of the rims. Most levers have a shape that simply makes the job harder because tyres are a really tight fit to this rim.

Thanks cycleclinic, will tubeless tape work ok if I want to use inner tubes? Or do I need something more robust?

Of course tubeless tape will work with tubes. Its essential to use it on tubeless rims unless you like sore thumbs. Tubeless tape is self adhesive polypropylene strapping tape. It's not a fancy bike specific development.
