SRAM Red chainset on Shimano 105 transmission

I need to replace the chain set on my commuter bike. I see it as an opp to upgrade the best bike and hand down. is It fine to put a Sram gxp red 11 speed chain set on a 105, 7000 series transmission? Sram says you need their front mech. Is that just balls to get you to buy more of their kit? Anyone done this or similar e.g. SRAM red chain set on Ultegra ?

I ditched my Sram Red GXP chainset after watching Hambini's teardown of it on Youtube. Replaced with a FSA SLK Light 46/30 to spare my old knees, I no longer get a clicking sound (from the chainset not my knees) going up the steep.
The FSA works just fine with Sram Red everything else so the reverse will also be the case. I mean a chainset is a just a chainset after all!
The yawing Sram front changer is a really good bit of kit but if you can achieve rub free running with the Ultegra front changer you will be fine.
