What is best practice for powering GoPro cameras?

I'm using 2 GoPro cameras (7 & 6 Black with latest firmware) and a power bank, so I can record long rides.
Is it best to remove the batteries from the cameras or leave them in?
I can't get consistent results with either option. Sometimes I can record entire rides on both cameras and other times it F's up just wheeling the bike out of the garage.
Sometimes one camera works fine and the other shuts down and corrupts the file.
The shut downs are at random times. 1 min, 6 mins, 90 mins whatever.
I've tried different power banks and cables. I haven't tried throwing the GoPros against the wall yet.
I'm on my third GoPro 7 Black. The first two had battery drain issues when powered off. The current one doesn't have the issue.
If anyone wants to volunteer to ride in front and behind me as a quick fire sketch artist, to replace the cameras. You're welcome along.
Thank you

I use a small power bank and plug it in before I turn the camera on and then it uses the power bank first then the cameras battery.
Coupled with a 200gb card I can record a 6 hour ride in 1080p without having to touch the camera or battery again.0 -

What power banks are you using and where are you putting the power banks on the bike?0

It is shutting down when it loses power from the power bank and it's not switching over to the internal battery? Is the cable loose?0

Thank you both for your help
I've used Anker, Aukey, EasyAcc, Choetech and PowerAdd power banks.stn5 said:What power banks are you using and where are you putting the power banks on the bike?
I put the power bank in a frame bag, which fastens to the top tube, down tube and seat post.
The power bank and internal batteries all have power in them, but the camera/cameras just shut down with the beeping noise.thistle_(mbnw) said:It is shutting down when it loses power from the power bank and it's not switching over to the internal battery? Is the cable loose?
It doesn't appear to switch to the internal battery.
The cables appear fully connected to the cameras and power bank.
Today just the rear (6 Black) had issues during a ride.
At regular intervals I tap the screens of both camera just to make sure they're both recording.
The rear camera had stopped recording after about 5 minutes. The only way to getting it working again was to pull the battery and start recording again.
It then worked fine until the end of the ride 1.5 hours later.0 -
Ah right. I feared that answer wrt frame bags. I'd like to run a power bank to extend camera battery life without faff of carrying extra batteries but I'm not keen on adding bags for that purpose. I thought about shoving a power bank inside a stem but haven't got around to attempting it yet.

Annoying. Are you running proper high speed cards?0

Yes, both cards are class 10 U3.
One is a Samsung Extreme card (in the rear 6 Black), the other is a MyMemory branded card.0
