Why are 3x chainrings less expensive then 1x chainrings?

Because triples are mostly only made for the bottom end of the market, so are made out of cheap materials. Plus 1x are more expensive to manufacture and have more raw material in them.

Then you don't know much about the manufacturing process of them.

My XT 3x chainrings cost about £25 each, so hardly cheap.

I can get a Snail NW chainring on Amazon for less than £15, so hardly expensive.

I can also spend more/less on either depending on the quality I want (Snail are perfectly good BTW).
