Planet X London road max tyres

Hi guys,
I just bought a Planet X London road in their (very frequent) sale, worked out 540 for the apex 1 model, which will do me nicely as a winter/commuting/gravel bike.
I am planning to put mudguards on, but want to push the tyre size as big as I can. The website says 40mm max (without guards), I know they used to actually come with a 50mm tyre option though!
I wondered how far anyone has managed to push the tyre size with mudguards? I reckon must be able to fettle some 40s in there with a bit of ingenuity!
Cheers

Might be a bit of a chore but you could have a trawl through the London Road thread in the "Your Road Bikes" sub-forum. Could have some tyre size recommendations in there.

Thanks, I did that, I could see someone managed 38c with mudguards, just figured someone on here must have tried to push it further!
