This anti-disc zealot wants to 'Save the Rim Brake' 🤷‍♀️

Around two years ago, I received an anonymous package from someone who was on a one-person mission to 'Save the Rim Brake'.

Another mysterious package arrived yesterday containing another set of stickers. Since the original article was posted, the account has swelled to a heady 2,000-ish followers. The comments section on the news story has also remained 🔥.

Who among you are still ardent rim squidgers? Or have you joined the (now nearly dominant) disc crowd?

The majority of cyclists I know are still using rim brakes.
    Who are these disc zealots?
Your own post would indicate that disc are still in the minority as they have yet to reach dominance.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Me. I won't be buying a non-disc brake bike again. Probably.

What anyone else does doesn't concern me and I don't see rim brakes going anywhere any time soon given their popularity.

Q: how do we engage with more people on here?
A: let's have another disc v rim debate
  • They both have a place in my opinion

If your brakes are able to apply enough force to lock the wheel then that is all the braking power that you need.
Direct Mount rim brakes are very good at braking, and are very low tech - so I can certainly understand why someone doesn't feel the need for discs.

I doubt you'd lock up the front in the dry on either sort of brakes.

    ???? Wet, maybe.
I've managed it on rim brakes to the extent of going over the handlebars when the car in front did an emergency stop. Pretty sure that I could replicate it on discs. Not that I'd want to.

Really? Traffic is THAT bad after the redesign that you're now getting editorial staff to create clickbait forum posts? :D

I have bikes with disc and rim stoppers. Braking is for wimps.

I've got discs on mountain bikes and they seem to be properly sorted. Having jumped to disc on road (with two different bikes) I'm far less satisfied - lots of noise, rubbing issues and the additional maintenance to try to sort things out. Ended up getting another rim brake bike and reminded myself how good modern rim brakes still are. OK not as good in the wet, but how many of us are pushing the limits when it is raining?
  • I'm wondering how to convert my toilet bowl rim into disc... everybody say it won't get as dirty...

I have both. My good summer bike is rim brake and my winter/wet trainer has discs. I love the discs and have never had any issues with them in the last 2 years.

My good bike (S-Work Roubaix SL4) has R8050 groupset and the R8000 brakes are very very good and as I only ride this bike in summer/dry weather I have no need to disc brakes however saying that I could see myself replacing it with something with discs in a few years time.

    Both have their uses.
