Gent Wevelgem Sportive 2020 - March 28th

Looking at doing the 136km loop in March, and possibly watching the pro's the next day.

Anyone done it and have any recommendations?

We'll be in a motorhome so looking for a campsite or sports centre (with showers) to park up at.

Did E3 Harelbeke last year, brilliant event and a fair few people had done G-W the day before as well.

  • Is a great sportive. Did the longer route, but the 136km version just cuts out the flat bit up towards the coast and back, so all the interesting stuff is still on the menu. Loved the bit through Ypres.

We hotelled it, but we were based in Kortrijk which was a short ride from the start (and also a short ride to the finish of E3 on the Friday). Can recommend the Gainsbar for all your Belgian beer needs.
  • As above... I did it a few years back and enjoyed it

I did it this year. Went to watch the end of E3 on the Friday, then over to the sign on.
Stayed in Ghent as I was with my wife and made it a bit more of a 'trip'.
The sportive was great and split essentially three ways 1. Flat open sections where you need to be with a bunch 2. Hilly section into France climaxing with the Kemmelberg 3. Balls out chainganging to the finish! Some great sections along the way including Ypres, the Christmas Day Truce area and then the Plugstreet sections where some wider tyres may be useful (the cobbles aren't a big issue). Had great weather last year but a wet windy day would be pretty harsh.
On the Sunday we watched them twice on the Kemmelberg. Free parking in the local village and walked up. Great atmosphere and plenty going on for beer and frites.
    Highly reccommended.

very decent ride and the kemmelberg is definitely a favourite. The last 30km if there is a tailwind is very fast.
