Making a big upgrade! Interested to see what people think of this combo, good experiences?

Hello everyone, new here.

I have been riding on a Trek 1.1 for quite some time now (I think 2015?). I do OK on it, I remember seeing a lot of hate about it online and it being kind of junk, but it honestly has provided me with minimum 10,000 miles at a time that I didn't have extra money for a hobby I basically use for cardio (because running is the most boring thing for me).

I just found a very great (or it seems anyways!) deal on a cervelo R3. It is last years model 2018, but that was after they revamped it. It's new, has all the Ultegra mechanical stuff on it. Price was extremely tempting (same as a R2 with 105 groupset on it, I got lucky it was in my size!)

From everything I have seen on most bikes in this price range, they tend to come with kind of bad aluminum heavy wheels. I found a good sale on some shimano dura ace 40mm clinchers and pulled the trigger on that. They seem like they would be a good all around carbon wheel, which is kind of what I am looking for.

I live in an area that has a mix of some flats, mostly mild-moderate hilly areas, and a handful of steeper climbs.

OK sorry for all the exposition. I guess what I am looking for, is if anyone has a similar set up and has been thrilled with it. From what I hear most things would have been a huge upgrade, but I am curious if anyone has something like this final build:

2018 Cervelo R3
Ultegra 8000 groupset
Mavic stock wheels ---> Dura Ace carbon clincher wheels, 40mm
GP5000 continental tires

  • As an aside, the things that werent stock on the 1.1 were a better fitted specialized seat, continental gator skin tires, and I replaced the rear casette with a basic shimano 8 speed and a new shimano chain after I hit around the 10,000 mile point. Other than that, it was all stock
