Men's Rider of the Year

Primoz Roglic: But for it being a Vuelta win instead of a Tour, his results look like one of Froome's stellar seasons.
First win February 24th, last October 8th.
Won everything he entered up until finishing 3rd in the Giro, but the best was yet to come.
Alaphilippe's results: One monument, a couple of lesser classics and a surprise showing in Le Tour, which ultimately ended in glorious failure. After that, absolutely nothing including couple of complete fails.
But yeah, he'll probably win the Velo d'Or."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Is it purely about results or who had the biggest impact?
I agree with you completely. Alaphilippe will win all of the awards, but i don't think he should. Results wise Bernal probably had a better year as well. But most people's initial response will be Alaphilippe."Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -
What about mvhp or whatever his name is?Half man, Half bike0

I imagine it will be between Alaphilippe and Roglic, and I think Roglic may get it for the Vuelta.
Didn't he finish top if the UCI rankings? In which case you would assume he was a dead cert.0 -
For me Alaphilippe was there all year and was a surprise in the TdF. He only crumbled at the last big climb but he certainly had a lot of people worried and even losing time he started that descent down the iseran like he had stolen something and was still leading out team mates for the sprints0

Roglic, by quite a long way, though in a normal year Milan–San Remo, Strade Bianche and La Flèche Wallonne (+ stages in TdF etc.) would win it.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0

It's Roglic for me as well. There is a bit of a hack to the voting here if you are a good GC rider and decide to omit the Tour. Then you have a very good shot at winning/podiuming Giro/Vuelta and winning this prestigious BR forum armchair award, no?PTP Champion 2019, 2022 & 20230 -
Alaphilippe, by an eybrow...0

Angel Madrazo.0

But it’s going to be Alaphilippe because the French have done their utmost to give Bardet and Pinot a fighting chance at the Tour by ousting Cookson, having the parcours be climby and not too TT’y and pretending that disliking Sky/Ineos is unseemly... then Julian comes along, wins a bleedin’ TT and nearly goes and bleedin’ takes the bleedin’ maillot jaune all the way to bleedin’... d’oh! Bloody Colombians. Bloody Ineos...0

Remi Cavagna for providing the most entertaining 5 minutes of the season in California.0

Alaphilippe, but only because I'm making a point about the status of the Vuelta / he was a major player in a huge proportion of the races I actually sit and watch.0

Or a statement about Strade Bianche and Fleche Wallone.

Threads like this need to start with a review of the year. I already can't remember who won Flanders.
Anyway, did Alaphilippe win more than Fuglsang?0 -
Bernal is 22, won Paris Nice, Suisse and the TDF, came back and had a laugh in the Italian classics too. Tough crowd!
_I still voted for Rogla on balance_0 -

The UCI rankings are for people who want to define who's best through results.
This unscientific poll is for who did I enjoy watching the most this season, and Alaphillippe made me get up out of my chair the most often this season.0 -

Multi discipline doesn’t count for road rankings.
I’m great medal of honour: allied assault deathmatch on the PC, but it’s not much use on the bike.0 -

Tough crowd. You aren't impressed by it, even in a minor race?
It was two days after that ridiculous fightback to 4th in RVV and a week before he won Brabantse Pijl and Amstel Gold, so he was on a bit of form. He'd have been a contender if he hadn't exploded in the Worlds, or if he'd done a full season, or possibly even if his team had been in P-R.0
