Hey

I have specialized stumpjumper 2019 alu comp, that comes with fox 34 rhythm 150mm travel (44mm offset 15x110 boost) and FOX FLOAT DPS Performance rear shock. Im mostly doing trail riding and very happy with the bike.

Im also going to the bike parks (gondolas uplift, downhill only) in the Alps for week or two in the summer, normally I would rent DH bike (mostly due to cost of air travel), but Im also thinking of driving to the Alps and bringing my own stumpy for the bike parks. Im doing blues and reds, nothing very aggressive or crazy fast, small jumps.

Do you think my current setup is enough for gentle bike park use or I need to upgrade components, or better off renting dh bike (as Im not ready to buy another bike this year)

What Im thinking at absolute minimum, is to get a more DH oriented wheel set with DH tyres.

Upgrading forks to 160mm fox 36 or lyrik/yari? and FLOAT DPX2 or FLOAT X2? But hey, thats already 1k in cash which could go to the DH bike.

Also, the concern is that current shocks are 'rx tuned' to the bike, not sure how new shocks will behave.

You advice is very appreciated.
Thanks

Not directly answering your Q, but many airlines will take a bike for free (BA for example) so while the base ticket price may be higher, the total cost may well be lower.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • That bike would cope with a bike park no problem.

I have a 5 yr old Fuel ex8 that manages just fine.
Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently

You'll be fine. I have a 140mm enduro bike that is only limited by the riders lack of talent.

I had a 2011 Stumpjumper FSR Comp with 140mm travel that easily handled everything I tried - blue and red trail at Cwmcarn, Llandegla, FoD and BPW, as well as a few enduro events. As BillyCool says, the rider was the limiting factor.

Your Stumpy will be more than capable in bike parks. Maybe put some beefier tyres on it, but apart from that everything else will be fine.

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try.

From my own experience from last trip to Solden and Serfaus. First days we have rented giant trances, few years old and used a lot, these bikes been fine in general. Then we have rented giant reigns, the difference been day and night, so easier to brake, control and jump, very nice bikes. Then Ive tried giant glory with bomber 58 fork, that was insane, so stable and bombproof, I could just point the bike to anything and it just goes through no matter what, really enjoyed full DH bike. I think I would prefer reign as most versatile and never returned to trance. I think my stumpy is quite similar to reign, lets see, the rentals is always the option.
