Mudguard front extension

My contend has guards that look like the above (spoedshield).

Despite the blurb saying that the contend takes guards it has very little fork clearance so the guard has to stop at the crown. And you get loads of spray because of the absence of a front section.


Any bodge ideas before I think about raceblade xl.

If you still have the front piece of mudguard (that you of cut off? ) , you could attach it with this kit http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/mudguards/sks-raceblade-long-fitting-kit/. You'd have to drill a hole (in the front piece of guard) and attach the appropriate length mount from the kit, preferably with a pop rivet and washer or a small stainless bolt. The mount fits under the brake caliper and is attached to caliper pivot bolt.
If there's clearance under the caliper, use two mounts and sandwich the piece of guard between the two mounts. It''ll vibrate less.
I've used the Raceblade mounting kit to fit full mudguards on two bikes and it works well.

If you decide to buy Raceblades you'll need the long type not the XL . The XL has no front piece.

Looks like that. There is no front section. It stops at fork. Might look at the raceblade xl and just use the front one

I could bodge with something like that. So, that top bracket would attach at the rear of the fork, the part with two holes would extend underneath the fork, then I would attach a mudguard front section to the holes. But it's probably not quite long enough. That's the principle I think though. An L shaped bracket?

So, this is working out fine. But, more coverage would be better.

So, have ordered some SKS Chromoplastics. Rear will definitely fit (need to make sure it doesn't contact front mech cable).

Front, gonna cut it at the fork connector. And retain the other one I've made.

BUT, thought arises, wonder if I could cut away some of what would go under the fork to provide clearance. Should still be rigid enough to support itself at the front.

Rear is on and fits. Much better rear than the giant one. Touches front mech cable but does not interfere

Happy Monday. The front fits! I guess it's curved just right so that it does clear. The only caveat is that really neat little black plastic bit at the front of the front guard needs to be popped off. The great thing about the SKS guards, of course, is just how low they go at the front. So, need to get the bolt cutters to trim the stays aside, all properly sorted.
