I have ordered a new bike which comes with the above rear mech and an 11-34 cassette.

Would that rear mech be suitable for a cassette with a largest cog of 28 or 30? Or would I need to change to the short cage mech?

  • I'm using a GS with a 28 cassette, no issues. Just make sure your b screw is wound in to the right spot.

You don't need to do anything with the B screw. The GS is designed to take cassettes up to 32 teeth, so will cope with your 28 with no problem. I run 52/36 with either a 28/11 or 32/11 depending on the terrain and how my legs are feeling. I don't have do any adjustments to the B screw.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

  • I have 6700 which handles 11x32 and 50x36 with no problem, but 6600 doesnt like it.
