New to the forum and looking for some help and advice.
I’m looking for my next mtb purchase and considering options..
I’ve just sold my Cannondale Trail 27 and I want to get something lighter.. it was just over 15kg and felt really cumbersome.
Must be available on interest free!
Top budget is £1200 and I’m leaning towards hardtail under 11kg if possible but difficult to find.
Looking at:
Felt Doctrine 6

Jamis Dakar A1

Not obsessed with weight, but certainly my goal is a lighter ride and would welcome some opinions.
Thanks!!

I reckon you’ll struggle to get under 11kg for you budget. Bikes have been getting steadily heavier over the last few years, what with bigger/wider wheels and tyres, wider range cassettes and droppers etc. For example, my rigid, high spec carbon 29er is just under 11kg, having spent roughly 3 times your budget to get it there...
Weight really isn’t the big deal it used to be now geometry is getting sorted. Try a few out, you’ll be surprise how little difference to the a kg or 2 makes. My 20+Kg ebike doesn’t feel THAT different to my 15kg enduro bike on the downs
You could do a lot worse than...

Having just looked at th felt, I’d avoid that like the plague, it has some properly weird spec choices, esp in the fork and wheel dept. Mixing boost rear and QR front is just daft, The fork is garbage, but if you replace it chances are youll have to replace the front wheel too, as half decent forks just aren’t specced with QR dropouts anymore, and vice versa with wheels, very few have QR optionsSanta Cruz 5010C

I know what you mean about weight and cumbersome or slow on non techemical hills.
The solution is not buying new. Search ebay for a older frame one which has only clearance for 2.2" tyre or maybe 2.3". A older alloy frame like a trek superfly would do the trick.
Then build it up. That superfly is 10kg with a rigid fork. I get around the rigid fork buy using tyre insert. Sub 20 psi on a 2.1" tyre is pretty co.fortable although this is more of a fast xc bike. Shimano xt or dram eagle 11 speed is not heavy neither are shimano xt brakes. I think for £1200 you could put something together that weighs 11kg.
Heavier bikes are fine on more chalks ging terrain but that not what we have in Suffolk.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
Thanks for the replies... I went to my LBS today and took a look at a few bikes.. as always you end up loving something well out of my price range (possibly)..
