As the title says has anyone got any real world experience of this setup?

I've seen videos and talk on forums of an 11speed rear mech working with a 10speed shifter.

What's peoples thoughts on this, it apparently works but I'm not so sure, before I spend on a new rear mech.

I'll be using it with a xtr shifter, will a medium cage mech work with up to a 46t cassette and 32t front chainring?

    Will never work satisfactorily.

    10 speed uses a 1.2 pull ratio and 11 speed 1.1.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

As above - you will have more problems than solutions.

Someone will tell you how they bodged something to work okay but it won't be ideal.

My advice would be to stick with shifter and mech of the same number of gears.

Interesting, I'm no professional cyclist so I wondered if it would be all that noticeable.

If It had worked I would have bought the 11speed rear mech as my xtr one is well used and due for replacement at some point.

I'll be upgrading to 11speed after my new cassette n chain has worn.
