Converting 12mm bolt through to QR. How easy is it?

I'm thinking of doing some sort of switch round of my wheels, and might put my 12mm bolt through Mavic Aksiums onto my bike with QR dropouts. has anyone done this? The interweb is full of hints and tips, as ever, but in the real world how easy is it to do this?
