Campagnolo 8sp cassette on a 9 speed hub

I bought a bike which had a 8sp Campagnolo derailleur/shifter. The driving train had to be replaced so I did that.

But I noticed they put a 9sp cassette on it(with 1 cog less ofcocurse) because the hub was an 9sp.

Now my 8sp Miche cassette did fit ok on it even though the spacings were different. It rides flawlessly, over 500km+ already.

But my friend says its gonna destroy the hub. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Definitively NOT going to destroy the hub, I think your friend understands fukall about bike mechanics...

If it works flawlessly, then keep using it

Why buy a 9speed cassette for an 8speed drivetrain?

That won't work if you have 8 speed indexed shifters. If you have friction shifters (down tube or bar end) then you'll be fine
