I'm returning to cycling after 5+ years away. I dug out my old Edge 810.
[*]Battery: I'm trying to charge it now but I suspect that after sitting in a cupboard for 5-6 years it'll need a new battery. If you have bought a replacement and are happy with it can you share a link to buy it?
[*]Maps: It looks like I installed openstreetmap on it using DC Rainmakers instructions https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/download-garmin-705800810.html - is that still the best way to get maps on to it?
[*]Outdated? Is the 810 so out of date that I should look for something new? All I really need it for is showing my cadence, heart rate and route. I wear a Fenix 3 to actually record my ride. It's a pain to look on my wrist while I ride though. I have an iPhone mount too but I'd rather not use that for mapping so I can save battery life in case of emergency.
Cheers,
Dub

I replaced a battery on my 705 after following a youtube video. Might be as simple as 4 screws to open the unit then disconnect the battery and install the new one. Someone I know pushed home the connector with a metal screwdriver and shorted out their 705 but blagged a new one from Garmin  A newer battery might be a higher capacity too, Amazon or Ebay are your best bet.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

the 810 is fine, can't believe it's 5 years old.
I replaced my battery recently, it wasn't tool complicated
bought the battery from www.subtel.co.uk they also sell a replacement kit if you need the tools.

Did software updates and went out with it today following a 'course'. Kept the map on the whole time and 3 hours of cycling later the battery was still on 69% so seems all is well
Only problem I'm having is that while it does bluetooth connect to my phone I can't sync it - get an exclamation mark in Garmin connect mobile and says there's a problem. This meant I had to plug it in to my computer to get courses on to it. Not the end of the world!2010 Specialized Rockhopper

FWVLIW, I’m waiting on the tools to replace the battery in my Garmin 800. It’s 7 years old now, and the battery is good for about four hours max nowThey use their cars as shopping baskets; they use their cars as overcoats.0

All of the replacements actually have less capacity than the original. Original 810 battery is 1100mAh. All the replacements I’ve seen are 1000Ah. Anyone seen a replacement as good or better than the original?2010 Specialized Rockhopper
