Carbon seat post.... worthwhile upgrade?

Hi all,

Am debating getting a carbon seat post, just wondering if it is worthwhile upgrade or if its just bike bling?

Currently own a Cube Attain GTC which has an alloy seatpost which I have setup using carbon paste, have read about alloy seat posts fusing to carbon frames, and also added comfort with carbon seat posts over alloy ones.

Anybody upgraded their alloy post to a carbon one and noticed any difference?

Thanks

  • I bought one of https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/SPSEDEHM/ ... -seat-post for my Cube just over a year ago, much positive difference to comfort.

Would depend on how much seatpost you have showing I guess - but they're cheap and they're a bit bling - I'd go for it. Don't buy unnamed off Ebay - buy from a reputable dealer.

I moved from an alloy to a carbon one. Slightly lighter and a touch less road buzz, that’s about it. Not worth paying a lot for, but if you get a deal...
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

nah - no problem with buying unnamed. one of the MFs has a £9 chinese one on his winter bike and its fine.

I bought the Kinesis one for my GF Ti for no reason other than I am a kit tart. I'll be honest I can't tell any difference over the old Deda alloy one other than it looks sexier and has a Kinesis logo on it.

I did notice the comfort improve and less pins and needles when I changed alloy to carbon handlebars, but thats a whole different thread I guess.

I've never noticed any difference whatsoever between carbon and alu posts. I'm in awe of people who say they can...

Same here. I expect that in a blind test 99.9% of riders couldn't either.

My aluminium post is silver. Carbon ones usually black. Does that help?
  • My carbon seatpost has clearcoat resin so you can see the weave, which matches nicely with the weave on the frame. Definitely worthwhile.
