hi

Okay im looking for a cheap bike to go on canal paths and bridleways with the kids. The bridleways are hilly but nothing to serious. I don't want to spend much as I won't be doing anything to serious and I haven't rode a bike for 20 years lol

That said i've found these 3, which would you go for or could you recommend something in the same price bracket?

Ps im 6 ft 3 so i need something big !

My only reservation is if you wanted to do more riding you would be better with spending a bit more.

Ill be happy with those, kids are only 5/7 so only need something basic for flat off road tracks.

    Cheers
  • hi im now considering this one instead.. a little more expensive, but is it worth the extra?

That's almost double the price range of the original bikes you were looking at. In between those and this bike are many other bikes. I don't rate the GT Avalanche myself. It has basic XCT forks which I think you can do better than for the price. It really depends what you want but if you want a low maintenance, strong go anywhere bike something like the Carrera Subway One at Halfords is ideal. Last time I looked it was £240. Unless you are planning on going seriously off road over very rough ground you probably don't need suspension. Suspension makes a bike more complicated, much heavier and means more frequent maintenance and expense. Only worth having if you actually need it. You don't need it for the roads or gravel paths and even for light off-road use the Subway is actually very capable, it's basically a rigid mountain bike. You can still do lots of interesting stuff off road with it.
